According to this article from WSLS/Danville Register and Bee, Rep. Goode is upset that some think he was driving the Hummer in the now-famous video. He is also mad about other things. Here, let me have Bernard Baker tell you about Goode’s quotes:
“First of all, I never watch ‘The Jon Stewart Show,’” Goode said Thursday from his Washington, D.C., office. “I didn’t ride in the Hummer. I don’t even know who owned the Hummer.”
The show also compared rap musicians with Republicans because they both like guns and money.
“I don’t know what a rapper is,” Goode said.
Goode pointed a finger at his Democratic opponent Tom Perriello for filming the parade and making it appear like he was hiding in the huge sports utility vehicle. He said Perriello and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama are the candidates of celebrities, and that’s why they went after him.
Jessica Barba, Perriello spokesperson, said Goode was walking in the parade and not riding in the Hummer. She said the campaign has nothing to do with the video and never had any contact with Jon Stewart.
Seriously?
Rep. Virgil Goode, does not know what a rapper is? Is he as incurious as his buddy President Bush? And of course, I am sure he does not watch the “Jon Stewart Show”, because there isn’t one. It’s called the “Daily Show” back on this planet, and it has been on the air for at least ten years.
The celebrity quote is a great one. Yeah, here we are in the 5th District, hanging out with celebrities like Barack Obama, Tom Perriello, and just for good measure, John Grisham. Actually, they might do those things or at least some of them in the more populous areas of the district. The idea that people are only aware of Mr. Goode’s record and previous statements from the Daily Show is a ridiculous one. Besides, The reason the story got traction is that people have come to expect this from Virgil Goode. In 2006, it was a ‘longhorn Cadillac’ that he rode in. It seems funny to me that Goode would claim celebrity is the reason Tom Perriello gets the coverage. Mr. Goode should remember his own appearances on that bastion of fair and factual reporting, Fox News, and how they like his brand of wingnutty fluff over there.
Who wouldn’t want to tune in to CSPAN or another venue and watch as Virgil Goode makes a fool of himself, talking on the floor of the House about ‘Moohammed on the dollar!” Or read the text of his now famous letter that was mishandled, about Keith Ellison and the Q’uran?
My county is 37% African-American. Do you think they give a rat’s behind if Virgil Goode knows what a rapper is? Or that he blathers on all the time about issues he knows nothing about and doesn’t even support. I would hazard a guess they would like a job, which Rep. Goode has not done very well with.
I have only one phrase for this kind of fluffery:
Goodbye, Virgil Goode.
