There is a lot that is wrong with the fact that Virgil Goode (R-Big Oil) is having a little lunch with the #4 lobbying firm in Washington DC. There is so much wrong with it, in fact, that I am not sure I can do it justice in one story.

September 11th is a day that most Americans reserve for thoughts of the day in 2001 when our government failed to protect us and we were attacked. Everyone I know was affected by the events that day in New York City, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC.

Even in the white-hot heat of a Presidential Election campaign, both candidates have agreed to attend together at Ground Zero to commemorate that awful day.

But not Virgil Goode.

He would rather lunch with the in crowd. VSA, the lobbying shop that is hosting this abomination, is primarily a government relations and government access firm. That means they have among their clients a lot of universities, institutions, and city/county governments.

I don’t need a ouija board to tell me that since Virgil Goode is on the Appropriations Committee (what he traded his membership in the Democratic Party for), most of the fatcats at the ‘lunch’ will want ‘face’ time with good ol’ Virgil. He is very accommodating.

Just ask Mitchell Wade.

According to this article from WSLS/Danville Register and Bee, Rep. Goode is upset that some think he was driving the Hummer in the now-famous video. He is also mad about other things. Here, let me have Bernard Baker tell you about Goode’s quotes:

“First of all, I never watch ‘The Jon Stewart Show,’” Goode said Thursday from his Washington, D.C., office. “I didn’t ride in the Hummer. I don’t even know who owned the Hummer.”

The show also compared rap musicians with Republicans because they both like guns and money.

“I don’t know what a rapper is,” Goode said.

Goode pointed a finger at his Democratic opponent Tom Perriello for filming the parade and making it appear like he was hiding in the huge sports utility vehicle. He said Perriello and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama are the candidates of celebrities, and that’s why they went after him.

Jessica Barba, Perriello spokesperson, said Goode was walking in the parade and not riding in the Hummer. She said the campaign has nothing to do with the video and never had any contact with Jon Stewart.

Seriously?

Rep. Virgil Goode, does not know what a rapper is? Is he as incurious as his buddy President Bush? And of course, I am sure he does not watch the “Jon Stewart Show”, because there isn’t one. It’s called the “Daily Show” back on this planet, and it has been on the air for at least ten years.

The celebrity quote is a great one. Yeah, here we are in the 5th District, hanging out with celebrities like Barack Obama, Tom Perriello, and just for good measure, John Grisham. Actually, they might do those things or at least some of them in the more populous areas of the district. The idea that people are only aware of Mr. Goode’s record and previous statements from the Daily Show is a ridiculous one. Besides, The reason the story got traction is that people have come to expect this from Virgil Goode. In 2006, it was a ‘longhorn Cadillac’ that he rode in. It seems funny to me that Goode would claim celebrity is the reason Tom Perriello gets the coverage. Mr. Goode should remember his own appearances on that bastion of fair and factual reporting, Fox News, and how they like his brand of wingnutty fluff over there.

Who wouldn’t want to tune in to CSPAN or another venue and watch as Virgil Goode makes a fool of himself, talking on the floor of the House about ‘Moohammed on the dollar!” Or read the text of his now famous letter that was mishandled, about Keith Ellison and the Q’uran?

My county is 37% African-American. Do you think they give a rat’s behind if Virgil Goode knows what a rapper is? Or that he blathers on all the time about issues he knows nothing about and doesn’t even support. I would hazard a guess they would like a job, which Rep. Goode has not done very well with.

I have only one phrase for this kind of fluffery:

Goodbye, Virgil Goode.

A person doesn’t even have to embellish this. It is too yummy to even comment on.

H/T: TPMEC TPM Article

I don’t begrudge supporters of the other candidate usually. But this was too good to pass up. I know it has been live for some time now, but what do we really know about “Goode Bless America”? (or as they call it, “Ain’t Nothing But A Republican”

Well, finally they have defined themselves. Go and see and write something to Virgil Goode. There is even a little button to submit called ‘I Believe in America” Imagine that.

Anyway, I am sure it is all in good fun (or ‘Goode fun’?) I personally have many questions for the Congressman. I plan on asking in emails about certain issues and the absolutely fluffy-like-marshmallow-creme “Goode News”.

It must make good copy though, it is in every paper of medium to small size in the 5th District. I am sure the editors of these papers read through to find what they are signing onto when they run these pieces unedited. They might find out that Virgil does not want to extend the same care to those citizens with a mental illness, because some of the most needy (severe psychosis, or as Virgil calls it ‘incest, transgenderism and gender orientation’.

Some of which are only compulsory visits to a mental health professional for those who are transgendered or other sexual/gender modifications. And which are not to be scoffed at, similar to the serious treatment of those who are either the perpetrator or the victim of incest.

Write him a little note. C’mon, you know you want to.

(Did I mention that the famous ‘Muslim hater’ letter of December 2006 is reproduced there? Make sure and check it out.)

‘Ain’t Nothing Like A Republican’

“[W]e are leaving ourselves vulnerable to infiltration by those who want to mold the United States into the image of their religion, rather than working within the Judeo-Christian principles that have made us a beacon for freedom-loving persons around the world.”

-- Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA), in an op-ed published in USA Today (January 2, 2007)

From the Think Progress website, a verbatim transcript of Virgil Goode on February 15, 2007. Congressman Goode is speaking from the House floor, Washington, DC.: (see website for video)

We are in the middle of a four-day marathon here. While I cannot say that I agree with all of the actions of the president in dealing with Iraq, I will not be supporting H.Con.Res. 63. The eyes of the world are upon this House and there will be commentary from the Middle East to the streets of small town America about what we do here over this four-day period even though this resolution does not carry the weight of law.

When the commentary begins in the Middle East, in no way do I want to comfort and encourage the radical Muslims who want to destroy our country and who want to wipe the so-called infidels like myself and many of you from the face of the Earth. In no way do I want to aid and assist the Islamic jihadists who want the crescent and star to wave over the Capitol of the United States and over the White House of this country. I fear that radical Muslims who want to control the Middle East and ultimately the world would love to see “In God We Trust” stricken from our money and replaced with “In Muhammad We Trust.”

Virgil Goode, December 2006:

Congress of the United States
House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515-4605 December 7, 2006

Dear Xxxxxxx:

Thank you for your recent communication. When I raise my hand to take the oath on Swearing In Day, I will have the Bible in my other hand. I do not subscribe to using the Koran in any way. The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don’t wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran. We need to stop illegal immigration totally and reduce legal immigration and end the diversity visas policy pushed hard by President Clinton and allowing many persons from the Middle East to come to this country. I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States if we do not adopt the strict immigration policies that I believe are necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States of America and to prevent our resources from being swamped.

The Ten Commandments and “In God We Trust” are on the wall in my office. A Muslim student came by the office and asked why I did not have anything on my wall about the Koran. My response was clear, “As long as I have the honor of representing the citizens of the 5th District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, The Koran is not going to be on the wall of my office.” Thank you again for your email and thoughts.

Sincerely yours,
Virgil H. Goode, Jr.

“My message to them is, not in two weeks, not in two months, not in two years, never! We must be clear that we will not surrender America and we will not turn the United States over to the invaders from south of the border.” -  Rep. Virgil Goode (R- VA), at the March for America, Washington, DC, June 18, 2007.
